Gavin's transfusion went great. Madison came along and she was such a good girl. Gavin fell asleep half way through, which allowed me to spend some fun time with my little girl! When we left the hospital Gavin looked pretty good. The only thing that stinks is that he looks really pale again. Hopefully his counts are up and he's just loosing his summer tan. -- Has Gavin ever been tan?

Our next or rather current battle is the feeding. He is currently only getting 10cc's an hour for 12 hours of half strength formula. He must get his rate and time up. We need to find a way to do this without causing him to scream or vomit.

This week has yet again reminded me what a precious gift a blood donation is. I was reading the bag of blood while it was hanging and it read "this blood came from an individual donor." Just kinda hits you when you realize that a life is dependent on the gift from another. Please get out there and give blood!

    Comments:
Mary Alice Carpenter:  Thank God for the gift of blood! Sure hope the new blood warms his body like it does our hearts. Keep asking questions until you figure out the feeds! Hug and kiss Madison as often as you can...and most of all you and Adam kiss and hug. Sure makes things seem better even when the going is tough! God Bless and prayers on their way.
The Rich Family:  Good to read good news. Glad you got some one and one w/ Madi. Still praying for you guys.
Matthew and Amy:  Hey guys, glad to hear that Gavin did so well with his transfusion and that your trip do Dupont was quick. I think the golf outing for you guys is today. I hope it goes well. So many people love and care about your family.

We got a call from duPont this afternoon letting us know that Gavin needs to come in for blood. This kinda stinks, the fact that Gavin is so dependent on transfusions, but I'm glad we are going down because I think he just needs a little pick-me-up. The blood should make him feel a lot better. If all goes well we should just be in and out.

    Comments:
the Hannum's:  Agreeing with everyone that the transfusion goes well, and gives him the strength to hold on until his pre-purchased healing enters our time and space.
Mary Alice Carpenter:  You poor kids sure all need a break, but the transfusion will help Gavin so you have to hang in there once again. God be with you on your travels and dig deep inside for strength. God Bless and prayers continue.
Fava Family:  Good luck Gavin. We pray that this transfusion will give you more energy and make you feel better!
The Rich Family:  Your in our prayers and will pray all goes good and you'll be done in no time.
Liz DeFrain:  I'll be praying all goes well. Your attitude and tenacity are a testimony of God's grace.

Good News -- We figured out the crying was just his feeds! Bad News -- We figured out the crying was just his feeds! After giving his bowels a 24 hour rest we had our happy Gavin back. He was a little chatter box and seemed to feel so good. But unfortunately we have to push his feeds. We have no choice or we will loose his liver. So last night we started a 12 hour on 12 hour off regime. He did pretty well for the fist 6 hours or so but then woke up crying and seemed pretty uncomfortable until.... His GJ tube broke. I'm not sure as to when it broke but needless to say we had to go down to duPont and have it replaced today. Yuck, frustrating, exhausting -- take your pick.

I'm waiting to here back from Dr. R as to what in the world his plan is to get these feeds going again. I would just love to get his TPN down a bit, in fact that would be the best thing ever!

Our nursing situation is just a mess. At one point during the week we were going to have 7 days a weeks covered and by the end of the week we found out that we will only have 2 nights covered. The cold weather is coming and, well -- we just need to make this work.

    Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

    Comments:
Mary Alice Carpenter:  My God please help this poor child get the nourishment he needs! Karen and Adam do not give up pursing answers and a nursing staff to allow you to rest. I know you have frustrating moments but with persistance you will get help. God Bless all of you. Remember if God brings it to you he'll get you through it!!
Chris Cillo:  Our family is praying that the Lord will provide nurses, and that he tolerates his feeds better. Sunday, Preschool Ministry will lift him up in prayer. I'll explain about needing a nurse to make sure he stays warm at night, especially when it's cold out. We'll be praying that you'll all be able to rest through the night, and feel refreshed each morning.

It's been a long two weeks. Gavin has been getting increasingly fussy and lately has been having period of inconsolable screaming. His hemoglobin has dropped significantly and his color is very pale. We are going to clinic this week so I hope that we can figure out why he is so uncomfortable. We have been really trying to push his feeds as his liver number went very high last week, which may be the cause of some of his discomfort. His numbers are still high this week but are down from last so I really don't want to go back on his feeds.

Please pray that Gavin can find comfort and that Adam and I can have strength to deal with his screaming. Please continue to think about Ally and her family as they all continue to heal after transplant.

We continue to treasure your support and prayers!

    Comments:
Mary Alice Carpenter:  Sure hope the Clinic can answer some of your questions. Try to stay strong together. Don't fear, Gavin's screaming is because the Eagles lost 2 games! :-) That one's for Pap Pap Jim! God Bless and we pray for strength and understanding.
Jess:  We are continuing to pray and will also pray for added comfort for Gavin! He is too cute to be crying!!
Fava Family:  Praying that God will lay His healing hands upon Gavin and your family. As parents we know that it must be very hard for you to see Gavin crying and uncomfortable and not being able to
Fava Family:  Praying that God will lay His healing hands upon Gavin and your family. As parents we know that it must be very hard for you to see Gavin crying and uncomfortable and not being able to
Betsy, Ray:  We definitely will keep you in our prayers as usual....hopefully they will be able to find out why he is crying so much, it is hard for everyone to cope with crying....hopefully you will find peace and comfort and answers will come.

Vacation is officially over! We managed to have a semi-good time filled with lots of activities. Gavin had a very rough time, but we went into this trip knowing that Gavin woudl provide some excitment. The more activity that Gavin had the worse off he was at night. We all spent our sleep time listening to his alarms go off -- all night. We had a great time spending time with my parents, Aunt Jenny and Stacy who were more than willing to take some of the burden off. Madison had a blast and was so excited most the trip that she didn't know what to do with herself! She has no fear and spent her days jumping though the waves. Gavin and I spent most of the days on the boardwalk frequenting the Ocean City Coffee Co. Yummy!

Hopefully we can catch a few weeks here at home!

    Comments:
Dan Endy:  Yo...OC coffee. Very nice. Great way to support the shore in my opinion. Love you guys. Peace.
Mary Alice Carpenter:  Welcome home! Great to hear you created some great memories at the beach. As for the alarms, Gavin just wanted everyone to know he was there too! Keep the faith...rest when you can...prayers for all to survive rough times!
Jess:  It was great seeing you at the beach! Glad to hear you were able to have a good time. God bless!
Irv and Linda:  So glad that you were able to get away on vacation! Wish it could have been a little more relaxing for you, but happy that you had the family time and change of scenery. Looking forward to the pictures, especially Madison in the waves, glad she had a blast! Keeping you all in prayer! ...
Terri & Bruce:  YEH!!! Glad to hear you had a semi-good time. We love you guys and are, as Marilyn said, still praying...Love ya....B & T
Randy & Marilyn:  OOHH! that Ocean City Coffee Co! I can relate! Glad you had a good vacation. It's always nice to get away with family. Still praying...
grammy c:  So glad to hear you had a good time. Anxious to see the little brown bears. Love always gram
